The scheme was envisaged in the National Policy on Education, 1986 to support quality educational opportunity, especially for talented rural children. The reviewed 2027 prospectus distinguishes functional schools from sanctioned schools and explains the district-based admission system.
Students learn and live in a residential setting. JNVs are affiliated to CBSE, while school-specific hostel arrangements, reporting instructions and later-class streams must be confirmed with the allotted campus. The general school description does not guarantee a vacancy in every class.
Read about Navodaya Vidyalayas →The main admission route is the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test, or JNVST, for Class 6. Classes 9 and 11 have separate Lateral Entry Selection Tests, known as LEST, to fill available vacancies. Each class has its own age interval, school-study requirement, paper and selection criteria. Use the current prospectus for the class you actually want to join.
For the 2027–28 session, the Class 6 prospectus schedules a single-phase exam on 28 November 2026. Class 9 and Class 11 prospectuses schedule LEST on 10 April 2027. A prospectus date should be read alongside subsequent official notices, including deadline extensions and admit-card instructions.
Check sourced exam dates and timelines →Begin with the NVS website or official class-specific admission portal, locate the result notice for your session, and follow its candidate-login or selection-list instructions. Enter personal details only on the official result service. Check the name, registration or roll number, class and allotted JNV before saving the communication.
A Navodaya result can show provisional selection, which remains subject to eligibility and document checks. A historical cut-off PDF is different from a candidate result. This independent portal organises public source material, guides and calculations; it cannot declare a candidate’s result or change an admission decision.
Previous-year cut-offs can differ by district/JNV, category, source quota, gender and block. Rural UR may be allocated block-wise, while open merit is available to rural and urban candidates. Calling every open record an urban cut-off would misrepresent the source. Select the correct source year and compare the exact quota and block before drawing conclusions.
The archive contains 27,450 records from Class 6 summer-bound 2025/2026 and Class 9 LEST 2025 PDFs. Every record preserves a source page. Category ranges summarise variation across records, not a new official threshold. A previous-year mark is useful context and cannot establish a guaranteed safe score for a future selection.
Choose state, JNV and class to view cut-offs →The Class 6 prospectus states that at least 75% of seats are filled from rural candidates and that at least one-third of the total seats are filled by girls. SC/ST and central-list OBC provisions, disability conditions and school-study area rules apply within the selection process. These overlapping rules should not be added together as independent percentages of seats.
School location during the required study years matters for rural eligibility; rural residence alone is not a substitute. District boundaries, neighbouring-school exceptions and two-JNV block jurisdiction must be checked in the relevant prospectus and annexures. Class 9 and 11 lateral-entry rules are tied to vacancies rather than a fresh Class 6 intake.
Understand rural, open and category quotas →Read the allotted JNV’s notice, reporting window and original-document checklist. Organise birth, residence, school study/pass and applicable category or disability records supporting the application. Contact the issuing authority and school if names or dates do not match. Prepare medical information using the actual instructions provided by the school.
Education, board, lodging, uniforms and textbooks are described as free in the prospectuses, while Classes IX–XII have Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi provisions with exemptions. Confirm your applicable fee or exemption with the school. For Class 11, understand stream choices and merit out of 60 before assuming a raw full-paper total determines allocation.
